Orchard Towers, a building in Singapore once notorious enough to earn the nickname “Four Floors of Whores”, has found an unlikely new tenant. On weekends, the site of former nightclubs, illegal massage parlours and at least one murder is now flooded with church-goers. Cornerstone Community Church officially opened weekly services at the Orchard Road landmark in January after buying six units on the fourth floor – formerly a nightclub – for S$54.5 million (US$42.3 million) in 2025. Former Saudi intelligence chief urges stronger GCC unity Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's former intelligence chief and ambassador, has called on Gulf states to establish a joint defence network capable of responding collectively to threats against member countries. Writing in Asharq Al-Awsat on Saturday, he said the Gulf Cooperation Council had faced repeated challenges and should "stand together like a solid, fortified structure" to strengthen regional security. Turki also called on Iran to abandon what he characterised as ambitions for regional dominance and to end support for groups including Hezbollah and the Houthis. At the same time, he urged Israel to halt what he described as its "bloody brutality" and the seizure of Arab lands. He further argued that Western countries should stop providing what he called diplomatic and military backing that shields Israel from accountability.

Iranian speaker says martyrs guide mission to Switzerland Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Zurich on Saturday for talks aimed at advancing implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington. In a post on X, Qalibaf said he remained committed to those killed during the recent conflict and described them as a guiding force for the delegation's work. "I regard the innocent children of Minab and all the martyrs of our beloved Iran as constant witnesses to my actions and conduct," Qalibaf wrote. "They see us and have expectations of us." The delegation, which also includes foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, is expected to discuss how obligations contained in the agreement will be carried out. Ahead of the visit, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stressed that the trip should not be viewed as the start of a new round of negotiations, saying: "This trip is essentially aimed at demanding the fulfilment of the other party's commitments. Any understanding or agreement is ultimately tested during the implementation phase."

US and Iranian teams prepare for detailed negotiations in Switzerland Iranian media have published images showing the country's delegation travelling to Switzerland for technical-level negotiations with the United States, marking the next stage in efforts to implement and expand the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries. Ahead of the talks, US Vice President JD Vance said significant work remained to be done. followup He told reporters that Washington's priorities include addressing Iran's nuclear programme and strengthening the ceasefire in Lebanon amid concerns that renewed regional tensions could undermine the broader agreement. Other issues expected to be discussed include longstanding US sanctions on Iran and proposals aimed at supporting the reconstruction and development of Iran's economy as negotiations continue. Iran's delegation, named "Minab 168", led by Iranian Parliament Speaker and Chief Negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has just arrived in Zurich, Switzerland. Trump says only US could impose Hormuz transit charges US President Donald Trump said there would be no tolls for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day ceasefire period established under the memorandum of understanding with Iran. In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump wrote: "There will be NO TOLLS in the Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period, and there will be NO TOLLS after the 60 day period has expired, unless they are imposed by and for the United States of America." Under the terms of the memorandum, the Strait of Hormuz is expected to reopen for an interim 60-day period after being closed during the conflict that began on 28 February. During that period, Iran is reportedly prohibited from charging vessels for passage through the strategic waterway.

‘What we think is exceptional, they consider normal’ Coach says Lamine Yamal fit to start against Saudi Arabia Luis de la Fuente urged people not to compare Lamine Yamal to Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona or “anyone”, but did compare him to Salvador Dalí and Michelangelo – “geniuses” for whom the exceptional comes naturally. On the eve of their second World Cup game, against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta, it was put to the Spain coach that Lamine Yamal is confronted by a process similar to those faced by Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona but at the age of 18. His image is everywhere in the United States, a global figure already, and the buildup to the selección ’s participation at the tournament has been dominated by his availability after an injury he suffered in April – a teenager cast as their hope and salvation. For the first time in more than a decade, Germany will play in the World Cup knockout stages. Their 2-1 victory at the death over Côte d’Ivoire in a lively tie here on Saturday saw to that. Franck Kessié’s 30th-minute goal for Les Éléphants was cancelled out by Deniz Undav’s 68th-minute equaliser and 94th-minute winner for Die Mannschaft.
