Africa's first liver perfusion machine launches in South Africa

South Africa's Donald Gordon Medical Centre has become the first hospital in Africa to introduce liver perfusion technology, enabling donated livers to be preserved, assessed and restored outside the body.

The breakthrough could expand the donor pool and improve transplant outcomes, though organ shortages remain a major challenge across the continent.
