UK summons Iranian diplomat over attack on journalist

UK summons Iranian diplomat over attack on journalist The UK Foreign Office has summoned Iran's most senior diplomat in the country following the sentencing of two Romanian nationals over their role in an attack on journalist Pouria Zeraati in 2024. "The summons follows the sentencing of two Romanian nationals for their role in the attack on Iran International journalist Pouria Zeraati in March 2024," a Foreign Office spokesperson said. "The judge concluded that this attack was carried out in the interests of, and on behalf of, the Iranian state," the spokesperson added. The two men were given lengthy jail sentences last week for stabbing the British journalist of Iranian origin near his home in southwest London in March 2024. Zeraati, whose real name is Pouria Zaratifoukolaei, is a well-known critic of the Iranian government. Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb said the "evidence overwhelmingly points" to the attack being carried out on behalf of the Iranian authorities.
