Iran backs Volker Turk reappointment to UN rights chief Iran has signalled its support for Volker Turk to be reappointed to UN human rights chief for a second term despite US, Israeli and Russian opposition. In a post to X, Iran's diplomatic mission to Geneva said that "we remain confident in the High Commissioner’s continued efforts to confront the gravest international crimes, including genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity". Turk has been critical of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
