Pezeshkian recently met Supreme Leader Khamenei, state media reports Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei around the start of the president's third year in office in late July, state media said on Sunday. On 21 July, the president said interactions with the supreme leader were "increasing day by day", though in early August he said communicating with Khamenei was "very difficult". The late July meeting covered military affairs and the economy, including securing resources, managing foreign exchange and energy use, as well as economic ties with foreign partners, according to state media. In May, state media also reported that Pezeshkian had met Khamenei for several hours, in what was then the first publicly reported meeting between the two since Khamenei became supreme leader. Khamenei was reportedly seriously injured in the 28 February strike that killed his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. Basij Organisation deputy Qasem Qoraishi said on Sunday that footage and other documentation showing Khamenei among the public and out in the streets, as well as in meetings with armed forces commanders, would be released in the future.

Vance says talks 'make progress' but Iran must make long-term changes US vice president JD Vance has said the US has made progress in negotiations with Iran, but Washington remains focused on determining whether Tehran “is willing to make longer-term changes that could lead to an improved relationship with Washington”. “The question is whether they're able, their system is able to give the things that are necessary for us to be happy, for us to feel like we've gotten what we need out of this particular engagement. That is still to be determined, but I do think that we've made some progress over the last few days,” Vance told Fox News. The photograph shows Israeli military personnel standing between two blindfolded men, whom Tirawi identified in a post on X as Nadi Marouf and Ali Marouf. He said the photograph was taken hours before their deaths and that the two men were "used as human bait and then executed". In an earlier post in October 2025, Tirawi had said that troops from the 92nd Battalion of the Kfir Brigade abducted the men from Beit Lahia and held them as human shields for several days. Residents confronted the settlers, according to the sources. Settlers also attacked homes in Khirbet al-Himma in the northern Jordan Valley.
