Pezeshkian recently met Supreme Leader Khamenei, state media reports

S8

Pezeshkian recently met Supreme Leader Khamenei, state media reports Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei around the start of the president's third year in office in late July, state media said on Sunday. On 21 July, the president said interactions with the supreme leader were "increasing day by day", though in early August he said communicating with Khamenei was "very difficult". The late July meeting covered military affairs and the economy, including securing resources, managing foreign exchange and energy use, as well as economic ties with foreign partners, according to state media. In May, state media also reported that Pezeshkian had met Khamenei for several hours, in what was then the first publicly reported meeting between the two since Khamenei became supreme leader. Khamenei was reportedly seriously injured in the 28 February strike that killed his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. Basij Organisation deputy Qasem Qoraishi said on Sunday that footage and other documentation showing Khamenei among the public and out in the streets, as well as in meetings with armed forces commanders, would be released in the future.

Pakistani defence minister calls for 'united military front' against Israel

S8

Pakistani defence minister calls for 'united military front' against Israel Pakistan’s defence minister Khawaja Asif has called for a “united military front” against Israel, calling it “a threat to the entire Muslim world”. In an interview with Pakistan’s Geo News, after the country signed a landmark defence agreement with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Asif said: “Given Israel’s current conduct, as well as the historical evidence of what it has been doing, at one stage, in 1948 or 1947, what I consider an illegitimate state came into being. It was, I believe, a product of the Balfour Declaration. ” “During that period as well, fighting continued and the Palestinians continued to resist. So, in my view, this is at the very least a situation that the entire Islamic world will have to come together and confront. ” “In my view, there is no room for disagreement on this. Until the issue of the Palestinian people is resolved according to their aspirations, the issue will remain,” he added. He said the “anti-Palestinian and anti-Islamic nature” of the Israeli state "would not change, irrespective of who comes to power" and "they will continue to play off one Muslim nation against another". Vance says talks 'make progress' but Iran must make long-term changes

S8

Vance says talks 'make progress' but Iran must make long-term changes US vice president JD Vance has said the US has made progress in negotiations with Iran, but Washington remains focused on determining whether Tehran “is willing to make longer-term changes that could lead to an improved relationship with Washington”. “The question is whether they're able, their system is able to give the things that are necessary for us to be happy, for us to feel like we've gotten what we need out of this particular engagement. That is still to be determined, but I do think that we've made some progress over the last few days,” Vance told Fox News. Vance reiterated that the US has “destroyed Iran’s nuclear programme, their conventional military and radically reduced their asymmetric military abilities”. “And right now we’re trying to see if they’re willing to make the kind of long-term changes that would be necessary to have a better relationship with the United States,” he said. “And if not, that’s fine too. We’re just going to keep on applying the pressure that we can apply and getting as much oil and gas out of the Middle East so that Americans can enjoy lower gas and energy prices,” he added.

'Used as human bait': Leaked image shows elderly Palestinian men before execution by Israeli forces A newly leaked photograph shows two blindfolded elderly Palestinian men from Beit Lahia in Gaza, hours before Israeli forces killed them in November 2024, according to Palestinian journalist Younis Tirawi, who published the image. He said the photograph was taken hours before their deaths and that the two men were "used as human bait and then executed". In an earlier post in October 2025, Tirawi had said that troops from the 92nd Battalion of the Kfir Brigade abducted the men from Beit Lahia and held them as human shields for several days.
