US army secretary Dan Driscoll resigns after months of tension with Hegseth

US army secretary Dan Driscoll resigns after months of tension with Hegseth US army secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The move comes after months of tension between Driscoll and defence secretary Pete Hegseth over the ousting of several top army generals amid a controversial push to shrink the number of high-ranking army generals in the US army. The White House praised Driscoll, who was expected to step down by the end of the year, in a statement given to the WSJ. “Secretary Driscoll has been highly effective in advancing President Trump’s agenda to Make America Strong Again at the Department of the Army by providing outstanding leadership during historic military operations, restoring an emphasis on readiness and lethality, assisting with negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and more,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said. “The United States Army is more powerful than ever thanks to his work alongside the Commander-in-Chief and Secretary of War,” she added.
