Trump criticises European allies over lack of support during war on Iran US President Donald Trump has criticised several European allies for what he described as a lack of support during the US-Israeli war on Iran. Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Trump said the US did not require assistance but would have welcomed stronger backing from European governments. "We didn't need help on this at all," Trump said, adding that "it would have been nice" if European countries had offered support. Trump singled out several allies for criticism, saying he was "disappointed" with Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and France. He also renewed his criticism of Spain, describing it as "a horror show". The US president has repeatedly accused European allies of failing to adequately support the war effort. Spain, in particular, has faced criticism from Washington after refusing to allow the US military to use joint military bases on its territory for attacks on Iran.

Iran slams NATO chief's comments on US support in war Tehran accused Nato on Thursday of "complicity" in the US-Israeli war against Iran, after the bloc's chief noted its support for the United States in the war. Responding to US President Donald Trump's criticism of allies for not supporting the war, Nato boss Mark Rutte told Fox News that hundreds of American planes launched from bases in Italy. "Country after country, ally after ally after ally, have made their bases available for Epic Fury," Rutte told US TV channel Fox News. "Five hundred US planes took off from US bases in Italy to support Epic Fury," he said, referring the US name for Washington's military campaign in Iran. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the Nato chief's admission of "active complicity" in the "unlawful war". Iran warns against Hormuz crossings without authorisation Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Thursday warned against any crossings of the Strait of Hormuz without authorisation, saying vessels not complying "will be dealt with". The future of the strait, a vital route for energy shipments that was locked down by Iran during the war, is a key sticking point in negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Tehran has said it plans to impose what it calls maritime service fees, as opposed to tolls, while the United States argues it is an international waterway and therefore should not be charged. "The only authorised route for passage through the Strait of Hormuz is the route announced by the Islamic Republic of Iran," said the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological arm of Iran's military. Any crossing without authorisation is "unacceptable and extremely dangerous", they warned in a statement.

Katz says Israel will not withdraw from Lebanon even if US demands it Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel will maintain its presence in Lebanon and does not intend to withdraw, even if the US pressures it to do so. "There is no American demand for Israel to withdraw from Lebanon," Katz said during an interview. "And in any case, we will not withdraw," he said. Israel repeatedly rejected calls to withdraw troops from southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire.

She joined when she was young, adventurous and needed to earn money – they let her do fun things like jump out of an aeroplane and drive a tank. But then she got deployed to Afghanistan, and within a month her unit got sent on a rescue mission, which is now infamous as the Good Friday Battle – the biggest German military battle since the second world war. She recovered two dead soldiers and one who was heavily wounded, but went on to develop severe post-traumatic stress disorder. It took the Bundeswehr (German army) over a decade to fully recognise that. Meanwhile she was discharged because they said she wasn’t fit to do her job any more. In 2025 there was a television documentary made about her life. She now gets a full army pension that she can live off and has started what’s called a veteran farm outside Leipzig, where she keeps pigs and geese and two dogs.
