Gaza death toll since October 2023 rises to 73,651, health ministry says Israel has killed 73,651 Palestinians and injured 174,575 others as of 5 September 2026, since launching what rights groups and UN officials have described as a genocidal military campaign on Gaza following Hamas's attacks on 7 October 2023, according to the territory's health ministry. Wafa news agency reported that hospitals in Gaza received 17 bodies over the past 48 hours, including five newly killed people, one who succumbed to injuries, and 11 bodies recovered from under the rubble, in addition to 27 injured Palestinians. They added that the number of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire took effect on 11 October 2025, has risen to 1,344, while 4,464 others have been injured. A total of 815 bodies have also been recovered. Wafa said that 160 additional Palestinian fatalities were added to the cumulative death toll after their records were completed and verified during August. According to Wafa, health officials said a number of victims remain trapped beneath rubble and on roads, with rescue and ambulance crews struggling to reach them.
