Nine people were killed and five others wounded when an Israeli strike destroyed a three-storey residential building in the town, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA). A separate Israeli drone strike hit a vehicle in Kfar Rumman, killing two paramedics identified as Ali Shahrour and Hadi Farhat. The pair worked for the Islamic Scout Association, the NNA reported. Rescue workers were still searching the ruins of the residential building for possible survivors and additional victims on Monday morning. Photographs from the scene showed the building reduced to rubble, with schoolbooks and pieces of furniture scattered among the debris. Nearby buildings were also damaged, prompting some residents to flee, AFP reported. Kfar Rumman lies close to the major southern city of Nabatieh. Residents had returned to the town following the June truce after previously being displaced by the war. Israel did not issue an evacuation warning ahead of the strikes on Kfar Rumman. However, its military issued a warning before carrying out a separate attack on a building in nearby Deir Zahrani, saying it was targeting a Hezbollah facility. The NNA said the building was destroyed 22 minutes after the warning was issued. The Israeli military said an explosive-laden drone had been launched towards its forces, without specifying whether there had been any casualties. It said Hezbollah’s activities had compelled it to respond forcefully. Fighting intensifies The latest fighting began on 2 March, when Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel in what it described as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader and repeated Israeli violations of the previous ceasefire. Israel responded with strikes across Lebanon. Lebanon’s health ministry said on Sunday that Israeli attacks had killed 4,362 people and wounded 12,378 since the conflict began. The fighting subsided after a June memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran concerning the wider regional war, followed by an agreement between Israel and Lebanon later that month. On Sunday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun urged the US and the international community to intervene to halt Israel’s attacks. Aoun described the strikes, which damaged government premises and destroyed an out-of-service hospital, as “a dangerous escalation” that had reached Lebanese state institutions and health facilities.
